Course Descriptions:

 

K-2nd

COMPUTER EXPRESS
This course is designed to introduce first and second grade students to commercially prepared software for
the microcomputer. Students will learn to run several different types of educational software.

MAGIC SLATE
In this introductory computer word processing program, students become familiar with keyboard letter
placement and will write their own stories, plays, and poems. This activity encourages creativity in writing
while students learn to edit and rewrite their own words and sentences.

TELL TURTLE: INSTANT LOGO
This course is designed to help students develop problem-solving skills through learning to program the
computer. Students will work together to solve problems using a Logo program that requires single
keystroke commands. They will solve these problems in "mind-sized bites" and apply concepts already
mastered to solve new problems.

 

3rd-5th

COMPUTER WEBMASTERS
Students will learn how to write and create their own personal web page. Students will use the computer to
write stories, poems, imaginative narratives and personal narratives on a variety of topics for their web page
projects. The web pages will be posted to the school’s web site once peers and the instructor review them.
Dialogue will be created during the review process to make sure that high quality web pages will be posted
to the Internet. Students will learn how to insert photos, graphics and drawings into their web pages.

COMPUTER WRITING
Students will become familiar with keyboarding and a word processing program. Through the skills
acquired in this course they will be able to use the computer as a writing tool. They will use the computer
to write stories, letters, compositions, and poetry.

SEARCH AND RESEARCH
The database concept is an integral part of our information-based society. By interacting with various
prepared databases, students will see how massive quantities of information can be stored on computer
disks and be quickly accessed. Higher-order thinking skills will be developed as students manipulate and
evaluate their own databases.
